Bhutan's history is rich and deeply intertwined with its unique cultural and spiritual heritage. The kingdom, located in the Eastern Himalayas, has been inhabited since ancient times, with significant influences from Buddhism, which was introduced in the 7th century by Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava).

In the 17th century, Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal unified various regions and established a dual system of governance that balanced spiritual and temporal power. This period solidified Bhutan’s identity as a distinct nation.
